abstract = "The main objective of this work was to evaluate the use and the
occupation of the soil and the states of erosion in watersheds,
city of Jaboticabal, State of S{\~a}o Paulo, Brazil. Air
photographs, vertical, colored from year 2000 were used. As
results of the analyses, using photo interpretation techniques and
evaluation of the data in cartographic documents generated in
geographic information systems GeoMedia, it has been identified
the watershed, the natural and agricultural vegetal communities
and the state of erosion. The methodology used in this study was
appropriate for evaluations of the use of the soil and the states
of erosion. The sugar-cane culture is the main form of use in the
micro basin with 3541.48 ha (40% of the area). The urban area
represents 19% of the total extension, followed by forest
fragments, citrus orchards, reforestations and other cultures. The
erosion state (2) - erosion intense 1 rare or occasional ridges -
was predominant (more than 60% of the global extension). The
SIG-GeoMedia was an excellent tool for analyzing the maps and
visualization of the results for the decision making.",
